sorry i've not tested it yet
forgeting to bring centos iso
but now downloading Elastix, VoIp system based on CentOS 5.3, with which i had this problem last time
And it's much smaller than original centos iso, 700 mb against 4000

but as i get from your solution and link on tuxradar, this problem depends on physical hosts NIC (manufacture or smth else)

Try from Windows Xp(putty) as:

ssh <ValidUserNameinyourLinuxOS>@<LinuxGuestIp>
Password: ***

eg. ssh root@192.168.3.2
