can't run programs

I'm a complete newbie to Linux, and I decided to install it on my HP Pavilion Zt1000-series laptop. I finally got mandrake 10.0 Community installed on it, and I'm using the Gnome GUI, but I can't seem to run programs. I've gotten Mozilla and the terminal to run every once in a while, but more often than not it will show an icon in the task bar and then the icon disappears. Can anyone help me?

Try opening a terminal. If you can get that going try starting your programs from that, as they may print help debug information to help diagnose the problem.

umm.. reinstall? sounds like you messed something up if its a fresh install. Like miknight said, open up the terminal and type "mozilla" or something.
