Question can't install ubuntu or red hat

One of my computers has windows XP on it. I am trying to wipe out XP and install Linux. I ordered Ubuntu disks and I have Red Hat. I cannot boot from any of the bootable disks. I went into the BIOS and in the boot device priority I set it to boot from CD-ROM. Still nothing. I have been searching the web for answers but can't find any. If anyone can help or, if anyone knows where I can go to get help on the web I'd really appreciate it. I know the CD's are good. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried the Ubuntu disk or just ordered them? Can you boot from other cds? The Ubuntu disk is a LiveCd so you don't need to wipe out xp to try it out.

I suppose it just goes to windows XP. Did you burn the RedHat CD yourself? If so, did you burn it as an image? You can check this by reading the CD on any computer. There should be more than 1 file one it.
Can you boot from other bootable disk (windows XP CD?)

Sometimes the initial start up to the CD needs another way to get to your CD. Some boxes has an F12 or F10 a few seconds before boot to a menu. Now choose the CD.
hope this helps
Note: Be prepared with a plan on lilo or grub, linux file structure, soundcard type and wifi or modem config.
