Can't install RedHat 8 to Laptop...

I cannot get RH onto my laptop to save my life. Everything in the install goes fine right up untill it askes for the second disk. I know the second disk is ok, I just used it to INstall to my desktop with no problem.

When I put the 2nd disk in and hit enter it just makes this noise... skipping over and over again. It will not read it. I have never had a problem with the drive under windows in any shape or form. Any ideas?

By the way... I just installed Redhat 8 (I had Mandrake 9 on it last night) just to see the differance. I really like this better but... on Mandrak I could scroll the internet with my middle mouse button/wheel. In Redhat I can't. How can I fix this?

Go back to Mandrake
Besides Mandrake installs itself even if the second CD is not in the pink of its health by skipping it.

I had the exact same CD-ROM problem with Mandrake ON THE FIRST DISK. Kill me. I swear... I could not get both disros to install on the laptop so guess what went back on it? You guessed it, Windows XP. Which did work with no problems I might add.

I don't get it? I could install Mandrake and Redhat fine on my desktop. Which leads me to another idea... I will post a new topic...

As for your mouse prob ... this issue should be easy to rectify ... i dont exactly know how to fix it .... but it wouldnt make me choose one distro over another.

Try setting different mouse hardware drivers as a starting point.

I am back on Mandrake now. Now I have sound and my mouse works the way I like it.

I just miss the Gnome from RedHat... I liked it the most of all the desktops I have seen. Anyway to get it on Mandrake? I know Mandrake has Gnome but it doesn't look the same

After giving it a little more thought, I may be able to help? When I installed RedHat on my IBM X22, I was not able to use the scroll function on the external USB mouse. The other problem was that when I disconnected the mouse, the thinkpad trackpoint did not function.

I solved the problem by installed RedHat without the mouse attached. Then after installation, connected the USB mouse and everything worked perfectly! The scroll function on the external mouse and the trackpoint also.
