I just recieved my copy of the Fedora 9 x86, and it doesn't seem to work. I first put the DVD in when XP was running, but it just opened the DVD as a file to and I could only see the DVD images. I did what it said, and turned off my laptop, put in the DVD, and turned it on, but then it booted XP again. I went to tried to boot from a temporary startup device, but the DVD wasn't shown. I tried in the BIOS startup setup to change it to the CD drive, and it still booted XP. I have a CDRW/DVD drive, and a x86 system, so whats wrong? How can I install Fedora 9 on my system? I only have 2 days left of XP, so please hurry.

When you're booting, you should have a message, somewhere, telling you to press <F2> or some other key to select your boot device.

If you manage to find it, then you should be able to boot from the DVD.

Just make sure you back up all of your personal files on your Windows XP install, though, as Fedora will probably want to format the entire hard drive.

Its F12 for me, I press it, and there is no CD or DVD drive listed to boot from.
There is nothing wrong with my CD/DVD drive, I can put in the DVD with XP running and it reads the disk, I'm just not able to boot from it. It only allows me to boot from the Harddrive, Legacy floppy drive, or IBA slot 4. something.

hi when you turn on your pc go to your BIOS F12, change the booting first device to your DVD drive and restart the pc, I think that is your problem. Remember that if u want to install fedora and still have XP in ur pc u need to creat a partition for ur fedora.

I was told that the Fedora 9 DVD will format and partition by itself, or before installation or something.
And like I said, it doesn't seem to recognize that anything bootable is in the DVD drive when in BIOS, only when XP see's that there is a disk in.

Just to clear up, It is a DVD drive.

mmm.... then maybe there is something wrong with the disk, if I were u i ll create an image with alcohol with that fedora disk and burn it on a new dvd and try everything with that new dvd, good luck

If you already have a windows OS installed and have an internet connection, you can use unetbootin to install fedora 9:

I may be misreading, but it sounds like you burned the image FILE to the disc instead of burning the image to the disc.

In Windows XP, does it show the contents of the DVD as being a .iso file? If so, then this is your problem.

You save it to a place on your windows installation, say your desktop, and then double-click it like you would any other windows .exe executable wizard file. It then starts up the net-installation process for fedora.
