can't get GCC installed

i can't get it installed through the apt-get install gcc command.
it says the following packages have unmet dependencies

depends : cpp ...
depends : gcc-3.3
depends : cpp-3.3

E: broken packages.

So i tried to install it from source. I downloaded the gcc 3.0

then I untarred it
typed ./configure

en gave the following error

=tmp=cNf925.pos : line 7: cc: command not found
*** The command 'cc -o conftest -g conftest.c' failed.
*** You must set the enviroment variable CC to a working compiler

Anyone who has a clue?

You need the very c compiler you are trying to compile, before you can compile the c compiler you need

So this is obviously not the best approach, you need a pre-compiled version.
I think if you're using Debian that apt-get should be used. But since that isn't working (have you tried resolving the dependencies?), you could maybe try installing Debian gcc packages.

I tried getting the depences by typing apt-get install "insert dependencie here"
but than they said they needed the others one... So it keeps going in a loop in a way

and i inserted the debian Woody disk (i have sarge) added it to my apt-list
then put the other sources.list lines as commentary but still it said it couldn't do it...
any other way?
