can't get audio to work

when I first installed RH9, my audio was working. But now that I have MPlayer installed it doesn't work. It says that no audio card was detected. It was less than a week ago that it was working fine. I think that even before I installed MPlayer it stopped working. Can someone please help a newbie? Please keep in mind that I'm new to shell and that I know almost nothing about it.

P.S. - MPlayer works fine. And I have "aureal vortex A3D" sound card. Please help!!! Been at it for days. Thanx!

try running redhat-config-soundcard at the command line, or clicking system settings -> soundcard detection from your window.
