can't find fdisk?

i am running red hat 8 but i can't find the program fdisk (getting a command not found error when i type it at the root console). help!

try typing in:

which fdisk

it's usually located in the /sbin dir. Some commands are even "hidden" from root, they are still there and you can still use them, but they don't want someone to mess up their computer with it. if that doesn't work, try using locate

locate fdisk

And you have to be loggen in as root to run the fdisk command :-)

yeah thats right. i could run fdisk when logged in as root but not as super user. thanks guys

What is that super user?

If that is 'su' --> it is substitute user ...

When you type just 'su' it goes to the default user --> root here. You can also give 'su <username>'.

And, to enable fdisk et al. when using su, just use 'su -'(hyphen) and you can access root commands!
