I have 2 hard disk and I install windows XP on the first hard disk. Both hard disk are in NTFS file system.

Then I proceed on to install Fedora core 4 on the second hard disk.
I use the automatic partition (Fedora changed my second hard disk file system), set grub loader on the first hard disk.

Initially, I select both hard disk for installation but the installation hanged, so I only select the second hard disk for installation.

I completed the installation, but when I reboot the PC, the grub loader does not boot up and the PC automatically setup windows XP.

May I know what is my problem?

Have you tried disconnecting the XP drive and testing to see if your system will boot to Fedora at all? If it will, chances are you simply need to change the boot process on the XP drive to show the Fedora drive as an option. There are alot of dual boot questions answered here, and some are with Fedora, and some are even with multiple drives!

I know this isn't much help, but let me know what you find out. If I find anything that might help, I will reply.

It's a great article in that it tells you all you ever wanted to know about partitioning and Linux! It is however, very long. I would really pay close attention to Part 2.

The PC is my company's PC, I don't have the access to open it up.

I'm thinking is it possible the grub loader is not written to the first hard disk?

Because when I include both hard disks to be used during installation, the installation will hang.

Is there anyway to check if the grub loader is present?

Well, one way to test to see if your system will boot via grub is to change the boot order in the BIOS. Have the Linux disk boot first and see if that works. Let me know.

BTW- if this is the company's PC, you might not want to change the config!!! I always work on my own stuff only, and leave the corporate PCs alone as far as installing my own software. Just a thought...

Try booting up using the rescue disc(usually disc one). After you boot it up, try to run lilo, once you set lilo as a default boot loader, boot with it and check.... if it will boot successfully with lilo, you can change your boot loader to GRUB by loging in as root user. Be sure to select /mbr for the location of where you want to install a bootloader

i used the rescue cd to boot up and i end up in a 'dos shell' environment. Then how do I run lilo from here?

I try different ways to install fedora, but when i include the harddisk that contains windows XP, the installation will hang. Is it because XP doesnt allow me to write to the MBR?

my colleague solved the problem, i should not use the auto partition, by using auto partition, fedora auto create raid for me, which is totally useless...
