Can't view dowloaded images... HELP!

Hi guys,
I was a little loathed to post in this forum, thereby admitting that after so many months using Linux... i am still a newbie... but anyhoo......

I was using FC3, but have recently gone to Slackware 10.

I can't seem to view images I've gotten from the internet. (browsing with Konqueror if it makes a difference) If I download say, 20 images I can only view 3 or 4 of them without hassle. The rest will only view if I change the image properties to 'embedded viewer'. Trying to open them with Gimp or any other program gives a plug-in error, though the images are all of the same file type. (jpeg)

I can view them in the various installed browsers but who wants to?

Thanx in advance for your help...I'm sure it's something very simple!

do you have jpeg installed ( I'd imagine so since the browsers are able to display them but it doesn't hurt to try). konqueror displays everything for me on a slack install jpg's, animated gifs, png's, etc..

yeah... it's very peculiar.... i have a folder with about 40 images in it and I can view 10 of them. (the ones i can view normally show thumbnails in the folder, the others all show a sort of camera-on-a-page icon). The images are all identical in type (all jpegs), their properties are all the same (except for size) and they were all captured the same way (right-click, Save Image as...) but MOST I can only open with the browser/embedded-viewer. Like I say, I CAN see about 10 of them normally and the are ALL jpegs.

"curiouser and curiouser"...

Oi!!! I fixed it! Well, not really. I still download un-viewable images but I've discovered that if I right-click the image icon and select action>convert to>JPEG then the image becomes viewable by all my applications. (curiouser and curioser, said Alice, since the images were apparently already jpegs.)
