Can't type password!? problem in Suse.?

Hi everybody..

anybody can help about my problem..in Suse...I install my suse 9.1..then it started...Installation..root password..and etc..etc.. then it's done..Here's my problem:

1. When i login..type the login name...and when i type the password..can't type the password....or can't see the asterisk..? Is somebody lock my Suse?

2. and Who is H. Peter Anvin? curious about the Suse installer i download it from linuxiso.org...because when the cd starting to install i see his name..

(1) That's normal. Linux doesn't display asterisks because a shoulder surfer could use them to figure out how long your password is.

(2) No clue, sorry.

H. Peter Anvin is a Linux kernel developer. If you do a Google search on his name you get a lot of intresting Kernel stuff - plus his personal web site.

You can set up KDM/GDM to display either a masking symbol (eg 1 or 3 asterisks) the password or in the UNIX tradition staying blank.
Should you ever encounter older UNIX systems you see that they do not display anything should you type your password in.
