Can't telinit 5

I am having a problem getting to Xwindows (with RH8.0). This is the error

Server Authorization directory (daemon/serv/AuthDir) is set to /var/gdm/ but this does not exist. Please correct gdm configuration /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf and restart gdm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

type the following

su -
mkdir /var/gdm
exit

init 5

this should do it. might be a little issue with the permissions on the new folder
tho.

the weird thing is that the dir /var/gdm existed the whole time... but the gdm dir is completely empty... am i missing files? -thanks for the replies
