Question Can't sync serial palm w/ Suse Linux

We have an older version of Palm Pilot M105 that has a serial cable. We connected it to the serial port and have spent all day trying to get it to sync. We opened the utilities then sync and found K-pilot. We used the Configuration wizard and tried autodetect. The palm keeps giving us a message "the connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established please check your setup and try again". Computer says "cannot open "/dev/pilot" I've read all the threads I can find but they are either USB devices or don't apply to our situation. I tried one of their solutions anyway. One person suggested hitting the hot sync button on the device and the button on the k-pilot right after for a USB device. Plain english please since we're very new to Linux. Thanks. Ruth

Well I have a treo 650 smartphone/pda "thingy". I use kpilot for syncing etc to kmail/kontact.

yes it's usb, not serial. yes my "plug in lead" does have a sync button on it. I just plug the device in and hit the button for it too sync - the default sync seems to be a "backup", if I open kpilots GUI and use the drop down from "file" I can change this to a "full sync" so that when I hit the sync button on the lead, it sync's, backs up, installs anything I've told it too etc.

You might want to google for kpilot too find out if "they" thing that the M105 works with kpilot or not.

regards

john

Thanks for trying

We just gave up and got a newer model. Hopefully it'll be easier to work with. Ruth
