can't start mldonkey

I downloaded mldonkey-distrib-2.5-4 and extrcated it. I then created a directory where i want it to put it's configuration files and copied servers.ini and mlnet to that directory. My problem is when I enter the directory in the console and type ./mlnet I get this error:

[clint@dhcp-310-59 mldonkey]$ ./mlnet
Your system supports 1024 file descriptors
Resolving [dhcp-310-59] ...Segmentation fault

any ideas as to what the problem may be? thanks for any help.

PS

I'm using mandrake 9.2 and my kernel version is: 2.4.22-10mdk
