Post Can't start Gnome in Mandrake 9.2

help! i just installed mandrake 9.2 and i can't start gnome. at the login prompt, all i have is KDE. i know for sure i installed gnome with the installation. i also can't install mdkonline from the control center. kde is good, but i'd like to use gnome as that's what i learned in my limited experience with debian...

thats odd.. maybe if you go into the rmpdrake, try to find gnome and install... Or you can download it online and compile it from the source. If its still not working, i believe the startup that prompts for a password is lilo so you may need to edit something in there if you *know* you've got gnome installed.

good luck

if all else fails get slack :P

the odd thing is, i went through the same install process as mandrake 9.1, but that only comes with gnome 2.2. i want to try 2.4, as i've heard its faster than 2.2. when i installed, i checked the box for gnome, and all the gnome stuff shows up in the directory. and when i run harddrake, there's only three things under gnome, and one's the mdkonline, which i'm guessing is stopping me from starting it. i really prefer gnome over kde, but i'm getting aggravated that i can't start it. any help on how to edit lilo? i'll post the error message i get when i try to install the mdkonline package later. thanks for the reply tearinox
