can't shut down computer - now I'm localhost?

I've been teaching myself Mandrake 10.1 by just exploring and fiddling. Now when I go to logout to shut down the computer, it goes back to a different looking login screen 'welcome to localhost' with no option to shut down. I have no idea what I did to change the log in. I just keep loggin on and logging off, I'm on a loop.

What did I touch that I shouldn't have?

Do I have to do the windoze thing and reinstall?

If it's a term screen then hitting cntrl-alt-delete will shutdown.

You may have changed the runlevel inadvertantly... Really need more info to know.

The log on screen? Is it a command line screen that you can enter the user name and password and log in to a terminal mode?

When I logout, I get a blue screen with the default Mandrake linux desktop in the background behind a white box with Welcome to localhost at the top and a box for login and password

I tried ctrl/alt/del and it didn't shut it down.

Sorted it out. Went the Windoze route and reformatted the drive and reinstalled.
