Here is another challenge I am facing. I have set my email sending smtp correctly (checked over and over, checked password, and user, etc) which requires authentication in all email clients in MEPIS 3.4.3_rc3. Thunderbird 1.0.7 (debian), Mozilla 1.7.12-1, and KMail. All are getting stuck when sending email..respinding with an error saying "sending message failed using SMTP". I am able to receive email but sending is a problem.
So here is what I have done:
1. Checked if I can send with WInXP (sometimes our network guys like fiddling with the server without informing us), but it works fine in WINXP
2. In MEPIS, I checked firewall setting in Guarddog, and the Mail.SMTP protocol is ticked meaning it is allowed; all other internet protocols are permitted.
3. I do not use a proxy, so that is not the issue
so you can send mail in XP but not linux using the same smtpd? it's something in the app then kmail, thnderbird, etc.
how and what do i check for in applications; i have been using tb, mozilla mail for about 5 years now, and always knew where to look in case of sending errors; this time it has stumped me completely, tx
nope, nothing that is not the same as in WInXP. I am baffled. here is another piece of information: when I ping smtp.<xxx>.com then the konsole just sits and does nothing, am I missing something. Where is the log for this?
