Can't see network (SuSE 8)
Hi all,
I've installed the eval of SUSE Standard Server 8 on a new Dell PowerEdge 700. Everything went well with the installation but, try as I may, I can't get it to see the network or the Internet. My guess is there's something wrong with the network adapter drivers but I'm very new at this and am having trouble figuring it out on my own. While the machine is booting I see a bunch of pretty green "done" messages fly by. And then a red "failed" shows up on the line that says: lo eth0 Could not get a valid interface name -> skipped I've gone in to YaST and installed different drivers (this box is supposed to have an Intel/100 Intel/1000 nic. I've tried the driver's for both). I've learned how to open X Terminal and type "ifconfig" but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for. Here are two lines that might help: inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host Any takers? Thanks, Kevin |

Sorry about that mistake...
Why don't you cut and paste the entire output of ifconfig? |
Well .... I'm using my Windows box to access this forum because of the aforementioned problem.
I guess I could save the output to a floppy and then open it in Word. I think? How does one copy text from X Term in Linux? Ctl-C doesn't seem to work. |
you can copy something to the clipboard by highlighting it and then paste it by pressing the middle mouse button (or both buttons if you are using a two button mouse)
