Make sure you have the kernel modules installed, and you may need an initrd.

I'll work at it on my computer and maybe between us we can get it working. I did some searching on the i810 and there is a i810, i810e, and a i810ee version and from what I gather there was some revisions between s/n ranges. tried slack 12.1 didn't make a differece, maybe I'll try 10.2 just to see what happens. I,m also going to try using the generic kernel, and if that dosen't work, recompiling the kernel. I think it might have something to do with the bios, but the only option I get in the bios setup is whether to allocate 512k or 1mb of memory for the video card.

Hmmm ... maybe that video ram is the problem. With 1024x768 you need 1MB
even with 256 colours.

That's what I thought also... BIOS. I've got some extra video card on My XP machine. I'll try to use it on my Slackbox tonight. I'll keep you posted.

I remembered using a very old laptop before but the penguin showed. I doubt but not sure it has something to do with the video ram. Hopefully not.
