Can't run blender 3d under mandrake 10 after I extract it. How come?

Hello All. New to the forum. appreciate any help.
Problem: When I use Mandrake 9-9.2 I can install Blender 3d. But when I try to install it under Mandrake 10 It will not let me run the exe after it is un tared and it is like this for other programs I try to install under this distro. I just want to know if this is because the last 2 versions I own and this one is the download version. Could that be the problem? If not what can I do? Any help is appreciated.
thanks
bkcrane

I'd suggest running ldd -v against blender, and see
whether you're missing stuff or whether libraries
blender is looking for have a different version number
and aren't being picked up or are for a fact not
downward compatible.

Cheers,
Tink

Thanks. Not quit sure what to do. I have tried the following command tar xzf [bkcrane@localhost 3d]$ cd blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.2.5-i386-static
[bkcrane@localhost blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.2.5-i386-static]$ ls
blender* release_226.txt release_231.txt
blender.html* release_227.txt release_232.txt
copyright.txt release_228a.txt release_233a.txt
GPL-license.txt release_228c.txt release_233.txt
plugins/ release_228.txt release_234.txt
Python-license.txt release_230.txt
blender*

Won't let me start the program in user or SU. I'm puzzled by the * and I have checked the sites FAQ not finding anything about this version. The blender* is a different size and it it hidden to user. Any suggestions. I really am new how do I use the command you left? thanks
Terry

the * means that it's executable...

What you need to do is
ldd -v blender

Tink

Hey Tink;
Yep you were right! there is a c++ file missing. Not sure what to do but. I have just signed on to the blender site forum to post a questing. Cause someone is having problems running it under OS X too. what do you think? Still open to anything you have to say. And let me say how great this is to have someone like you and this site. This would never be in Bill's Kingdom. (Windows) Once again thanks. looking forward to more info.
Terry
