Can't play youtube in Lubuntu from Live CD
 

When I went to youtube to see how it would work in Lubuntu it asked me to install Flash. I can't install it. Is this normal when just running a live CD?

I don't think Ubuntu live cds come with Flash installed.

Linux Mint (http://linuxmint.com) live cds come with Flash and work with Youtube, so you could try downloading one of those if you can.

I already have a mint live cd made, I wanted to try this lubuntu first because of the size. I am trying a few out to see what I am going to install on this HP Pavillion. It only has a 40g HDD. Has a Pentium 4 CPU. I use it for a TV computer almost exclusively. I have 2g of RAM in it also so I don't really need to go with lubuntu. I guess I will try ubuntu then mint to see what I think....

I have another desktop that is running XP that before all is said and done will probably end up with ubuntu or mint. I have been messing with computers since 87. I have a pretty good knowledge of PCs just a newb when it comes to Linux. I used to be good at DOS then 3.1, 3.11, etc. I think Linux will be learnable just don't want to take the plunge and then regret it.

Many times one can add in software even in a live cd. (just for that boot)

Adding on to jefro above, you can't add flash to the live CD by clicking on something shown by the browser as you might in Windows. You have to install a flashplugin through the package manager, or a terminal. I'm not familiar with lubuntu but you should be able to install what you need by opening the Synaptic Package Manager. That should be located in the menu under either "Administration" or "System" category heading.

After it starts, hit the reload button on its interface and wait until it finishes updating itself. Then type "flash" in the search box and look for a package like this in the resulting list: flashplugin-installer. Click the box next to it and choose "Mark for Installation". Then hit the "Apply" button along the top. If it says other things will be installed along with it, accept them and have it installed. Close the package manager when done. Firefox should now play youtube vids.

You can install programs in a live environment, however the programs you installed will disappeared after you reboot the system and you have to repeat the process again.

To make the installation of these programs permanent, your three options are to install lubuntu on your hard drive, in a virtual machine or create a persistent USB stick.

Be careful on updates that affect non-editable files such as kernel.

I'd just use synaptic to add in flash or apt-get for flash. If update tries to change out kernel the live boot will poop out.
