can't ping my server

I'm not too sure what is going on, but for some reason I cannot ping my server, and I am not sure if there is something within my Linux configuration that may be denying pinging access. Normally I want this service turned off, but while trying to trouble shoot I need to be able to ping it.

My RH 7.3 server is on its own network, and is trying to communicate with another server on a different network. A firewall issue has been ruled out. I can ping this other server from my Linux box, but the other server cannot ping me. Is there anything I can check to see if ping access is disabled?

Thanks.

Try cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all or icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts. If either of these output 1 then pinging has been disabled. "echo 0>/proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_all" or "echo 0>/proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts" should fix it. If you want to make the change more permanent, edit /etc/sysctl.conf and add/edit these lines:

net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_all=0
net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts=0

This might sort your problem.
