Can't open py files

Greetings lq members! My real name is nick, but I just chose Quizmaster at random. I'm a noobie when it comes to linux, but I am a programmer, so granted I've been learning linux quickly. Here's the problem: I recently installed Crunchbang 10 yesterday, and earlier while I was trying to cp this py file I scripted in gedit, I got an error message saying can't open ex1.py: no such file or directory, and yet I dragged it in my documents directory and saved it, but I can't perform any commands on it. What's the problem? Could I be in need of a certain python module or what?

This either means that you don't gave the correct path of the file to gedit, or that you don't have the correct permissions to open that file. You don't need any module for opening, since Python files are plain text.

Yeah, locating directories is probably the worst inability I could have as an aspiring linux programmer, but I did have a feeling that might be it. I just tried running it as root and I got: missing file operand after 'ex1.py'. That confirms it! Thanks for your patience man
