Can't open a wa-wa-what!?

Alrighty then,

I just installed the 2.6.0 kernel and it works fantastic. (It was a pain in my duff to get it installed though.) Anyway, I just tried to run kpackage and I get this message

Can't open a pseudo teletype

When I run kpackage as root it doesn't happen, but then again, kpackage never seems to work right when I'm root anyway. :(

Well if anyone can give me the 411 on how to solve this problem, that'd be fantastic.

A pseudo teletype is kinda like a terminal window or console session, I think. It's usually abbreviated PTY. I seem to recall there is a configuration option in the kernel (at least, in all the ones I've compiled; probably in 2.6 also) for enabling "Unix98 PTY" support. Check to see if you have it enabled. I presume you compiled the kernel from source? If so, you probably know how to enable it. If not, then I don't know if there is a way to enable it without compiling from source...

if you are using redhat there are unofficial redhat rpms for 2.6

i guess its more safe that way if you dont have the experience

Well, I checked my kernel config and it says I have Unix98 PTY support built into the kernel. Weird... Maybe it's a 2.6 thing...
