Can't login, is there another way....
I just installed Mandrake linux 9 and i believe i messed up the user info when installing (i didn't enter anything). I can not login to linux, is there a way around this? do i need to re-install?

When you install linux you are asked for a password for root
if you are sure you have not entered any pass, there still a way to fix it without reinstalling... i think it was something like pressin ctrl+d during boot, but still don t try this, maybe i am wrong :D do a search on the forums, his topic has arleady been worked out |
Thanks, i did enter a pass at one point, I think another screen asked for user info that i did not fill in, should have been paying more attention.

Or simply reinstall it and do it correctly this time

Don't know whether MDK9 still has this "feature"
... but in older versions you could just pass single as a kernel boot option to lilo, and you'd be root without a password prompt ... then you can just edit /etc/passwd :} to your hearts content ;) Cheers, Tink |
Thanks, done..
One drink for you on me.../ |
