can't install linux
hi there... I've got problem here. I can't install linux in my system. For the 1st time i tried install mandy 2k8. But after reboot it's stuck in acpi sys if i'm not mistaken. After hours to evaluate what's happen I decided to install FC 9 but it's stuck again (i'm sorry i can't remember what is the last msg is coz the message looks like hexa number) lastly I try Open Suse Live cd an it's stuck in bootloader. After that I reboot the system and grub inform that i got error 15. I use mandy 2k8 rescue system to restore windows bootloader. But until now i don't know what is happen to my compy.
My compy spec is Gigabyte G31M-S2C Intel Core 2 1,6Ghz 4Gb Mem DDr2 DVD RW 16X Hdd SATA 160 Nvidia GF 8500 PciX I'm verry sorry if i'm not getting the detail of the problem coz the problem so suddenly and i don't notice the error output. Did u think my h/w is not compatible with the linux OS that i mention above. If yes why I could install WinXp that much older than the linux above? |
Try passing noacpi as a kernel parameter when you install Mandriva. Also consider installing the latest version of Mandriva One or Mandriva Free 2009.

In addition to what Nexus says, the issue might be about the SATA harddrive. Some install CD etc might also need parametres to handle that. Look for some help on F1 or f2 just when the CD/DVD is about to boot. It will some times give you a whole list of possible parametres.
