can't install gtk+-2.4.6

I compiled glib, atk, pango, but when I ./configure gtk i get this message:

--------------------------------------
checking Pango flags... -I/usr/local/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/local/include/glib-2.0 -I/usr/local/lib/glib-2.0/include -Wl,--export-dynamic -L/usr/local/lib -lpangoxft-1.0 -lpangox-1.0 -lpango-1.0 -lgobject-2.0 -lgmodule-2.0 -ldl -lglib-2.0
configure: error:
*** Can't link to Pango. Pango is required to build
*** GTK+. For more information see http://www.pango.org
---------------------------------------

But I when I compiled Pango 1.4, it compiled fine.

Any suggestions?

Did you install the dev version of pango. It's called "same as the normal pango here"-dev or "file"-devel?

If you're trying to compile everything from the source, have you removed the RPMs for these packages if they were already installed?

no, how do I do that?

btw, I did a search for the pango-devel and I found a couple and I downloaded the 1.4 version and extracted it to my /src/ but still no luck.
