Can't install gcc-4.1.1

Hi there,
im having a problem trying to install gcc-4.1.1 on my clarkconnect box, its the latest clarkconnect. i need to install gcc-4.1.1 so i can install opendchub on it.
Im accessing clarkconnect it through PuTTY.
I have no idea how to install gcc-4.1.1 and the instructions seem quite complicated to a new linux user like me
The file is called gcc-4.1.1.tar.bz2

Some help would be highly appreciated.

It looks like ClarkConnect uses RPM with APT -- can you just do "apt-get install gcc"? If there's no binary package for gcc, you might need to get the binary package from http://gcc.gnu.org -- you can't install gcc from source because you need to have gcc already installed to do that (basically gcc needs a C compiler to build itself).

im guessing that this will need internet to do, which the linux box doesnt have, i only have 56k on the pc that im on at the moment,i get this:
Code:
[root@server ~]# apt-get install gcc
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
E: Couldn't find package gcc
[root@server ~]#
you mention binary packages, do you mean this? or something like this?

thanks for the help so far....

The src.rpm in source code -- as I mentioned, you can't install that. ClarkConnect is not a particularly well known distribution for Linux so perhaps there are no gcc binary packages available -- I don't know. Perhaps you can get one of the OpenPKG binary packages to work. Or perhaps you can use rpmfind.net to find an RPM that will work for you. Unfortunately, I know zilch about ClarkConnect, so maybe someone who uses it can help you further...
