Can't Init new vmlinuz-2.6.18

Hello
For several times I'd compile the new Linux Kernel and all modules.. I think I did it correctly, so I'd comfigure everything by menuconfig, I have a Celeron 2.4Ghz with 512MbRAM ... I didn't change the clock speed, so it steel on 250hz.. I'm not sure what is the speeds into my PC (ironicly I have neven seen that).
But ok ...
So after bzImage is done and all modules compiled I'd copied bzImage to /boot and called vmlinuz-2.6.18, edited lilo.conf and used lilo command.
Ok untill here it is all ok, and I presume well done. but when I reboot and try to init trought the new kernel it doesn't do anything. It loads the kernel, when it is searching for PORTS os don't detect it or can't open... I belive that maybe it is related... When init should start it simply shutdown the monitor and doesn't do anything more ....

what can I do ... ?

thank you

Post the tail end of what you see on the screen, verbatim, before it crashes if possible.

Get paper and a pen and write down what you see on the screen. Post what you write down.

you 100% sure you've added the correct details to lilo.conf?

append to /sbin/lilo.conf : "vga=NORMAL" just to make sure something...
