Can't get things to install on Mandrake 10
Hello!
Have been using Mandrake 10.0 for about 2 months, and it is great, BUT have recently tried to install a few things on it, e.g. dillo and xv. I tried to do this by the tar method, typing "tar -zxvpf dillo******.tar.gz" (can't remember full filename) and then ./configure in the hope of getting a makefile. Both have come up with errors, never getting to the makefile stage and I am not sure wether it is my version of linux (installed on my computer on a night 3 years ago by someone else) or it is because I am making some sort of foolish installastion error... Any ideas? (p.s. apart from this linux ROCKS) |
Here is an explanation of the steps that you have to go through to install from source on Linux:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...ms_from_Source It is fairly common to get errors during the configure stage because ./configure checks to see if you have all of the other programs that your new program depends on. Please post the output from your ./configure run and we can explain what to do to fix the errors noted by ./configure. ------------------ Steve Stites |
