can't get knoppix to boot
I am one of the few geeks left who still knows little to nothing about linux, but I am hoping to change that.
I recently downloaded knoppix (3.7) and am trying to boot off of the cd. I am using two different computers, both of which are set to boot off the cd drive before the hard drive. Neither computer will boot from the cd, they both simply ignore the cd and jump into windows (xp-sp2). I have tried both burning the *.iso file directly to cd and unpacking the file and burning its contents to a cd, but to no avail. When I actually turn off hard drive booting (leave cd as the only possible boot), the computer waits for a minute or so and then claims there is no operating system. I have also looked at the cd which is burned with separate files ('unpacked' iso files), and I can see the autorun file (which just opens up a little readme webpage) along with a number of other files. Any help as to how I should proceed would be greatly appreciated, and stuff, me. |
Hi snumpy, welcome to lq. You'll need to use the "burn image" option from your burning software. What program are you using?
good luck. |
I actually just used windows xp's basic "Write these files to cd." I was too lazy to actually install burning software after my most recent reformatting.
I have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 on my other computer if that will work where XP has failed. thanks, and stuff, me. |
This might help.
http://members.home.nl/lsnoek/iso.htm http://www.gadgetopia.com/2004/07/06...rningTool.html One of those should get you going. Basically you need to burn the image to disk. Hope that helps. good luck. |
it worked.
