There's a good chance you can get the new adapter to work, if you drop some info like --> Which Linux distribution?, which adapter, router?

If you have a network card in the computer you can just purchase a wireless bridge. I use a Netgear ME101 (which you may not be able to find anymore.)
It works just like the wireless usb adapter but plugs into your network card. |

I have a USB wireless adapter, it looks like a USB Flash drive and has about the same effective wireless range.
I tried using it in a PC, and the PC was showing 100% signal strength from the Wireless access point. The wireless Access point was showing ZERO wireless clients in the area. The transmit signal from that USB wireless thing was so weak it couldn't reach the WAP downstairs from the PC in the upstairs office. I think the suggestion of using an external wireless bridge with an existing internal Wired NIC is the Easiest solution to get working. If you don't wish to go that route, do some research to find a compatible Internal Wireless card for your PC then go buy it.. |
