Can't get from command line interface to GUI
 

I have installed Linux on a windows xp machine. When I boot linux, I get command line stuff and am asked to logon which I can do. From there on, everything is french. Cannot even execute commands I read in the red hat manual, let alone get to the Gui screen. I am sure this is something basic, but I have spent hours on it... Someone please help. Thanks Doug

What happens if you command

startx

u cannot execute all commands as a normal user. there are certain commands which require u to be root to be able to execute them. ;

are you sure you set english as the default language?
