can't get fluxbox to start on Red Hat 8.0
I have created /home/h2gofast/.xinitrc which has "exec fluxbox"
I tried using the full path to fluxbox , but I can't get anything.
Please help.
I can't figure out how RH 8 decides which window manager it is going to use. I am currently set up to use only KDE. IIRC I opted to not install gnome.
Thanks in advance.

Do you boot staight to X? I mean after the boot sequence are you presented with graphical login screen - KDM in your case? If so it requires a bit of tweaking to get fluxbox into KDM menu so refer to my other reply http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...981#post174981

thanks for the reply, I had found a solution over on arstechnica that was similar to the one in you link. That is essentially what I had to do. I am posting from fluxbox now.
thanks again
h2.
I believe yours and the one on ars are the only solutions I found after extensive searches.

Do you like flux in RH8?
I heard that with some people it works pretty sluggish under RH8.

I'm running flux in RH 8.0. Ive never run flux on any other distro so I can't really tell you how fast / slow it is compared to others, but it seems pretty fast to me.

I like it alot. when you configure, check the README to enable KDE and/or gnome support. It is definitely quicker than kde ever was. I installed some docking applets that give you percentage of memory and swap space used. And I can tell you that fluxbox takes up much less memory than kde.
I would say try it.

I just tried to install it but I'm pretty clueless. I followed the INSTALL file in the rpm and during 'make install' I got errors.
