Can't get computer to boot after installing fedora core 5 along with WinXP

I tried installing Fedora Core 5 as a dual boot with Windows Xp. I installed the FC5 in 63GB of free hard drive that I did not partion when I first put the HD in my computer. When I went to reboot all I get is a black screne with the word GRUB in the upper left hand corner. I thought there was suppose to be a list to choose which OS I wanted to load, but there isn't. I followed the intall instructions that came in the magazine my FC5 came with. I am at a loss. Please know I'm not really computer literate so if you do reply please use as simple terminology as you can. Thank you.

Yes, you are right, there should be a splash screen with a choice of XP or Linux. Grub is the boot loader. It should detect the two operating systems and show them. It looks like grub is not working.

The first thing I would try is rebooting the computer with the Fedora CD in it. You should get a list of options, one of which is "Repair Installation", or something like that. Select that one, and go through the screens, reading everything. Somewhere in there it should give you some options for setting up grub again. You should not have to go through a whole reinstall.

Try that and tell us what happens. Good luck.
