Question Can't find Server

Running dual OS on my system, Windows 7 & Ubuntu 10.04.
Several weeks ago firefox on ubuntu started giving me a "Can't find the server" error.
I have no problems logging on with Windows Internet Explorer.
No idea what's wrong.

cbtshare - no change

T3RM1NVT0R - good access before
- made no changes myself

Hi rocketman48065,

Welcome to LQ!!!

Questions for you:

1. Were you able to access internet before on Ubuntu?
2. What were the changes that you made to Ubuntu system?
3. Are you able to ping any website?
4. Are you able to ping your default gateway?
5. Does ifconfig command shows the correct configuration? Share the output if possible.
6. Have you got proper DNS server entry in /etc/resolv.conf? Share the output if possible.

if it is a cable connection ( AT&T dose this to me)
the ip address will change all of a sudden but ask windows network to reconnect
a bit hard if windows is not running
Mac users also have problems

most of the time manually running
Code:
ifdown etho
--- output --- some more ---
--then run --
ifup eth0
that normally fixes it

Angry ubuntu update

I fired up another computer I had with an older and less updated version of ubuntu 10.04
It logs on-line just fine
I think that a recent update to ubuntu made a change that is not allowing firefox to find the server
I don't know where to look in ubuntu to correct the problem or what to input
I can't be the only one with this problem but I haven't seen ubuntu addressing an update causing this
