Can't find kppp on OpenSUSE
 

Hi everyone! I'm a complete newb to Linux, even though I've had it for a while. I just never used it because I didn't have a modem that was compatible. So finally, I changed from Fedora 5 to OpenSUSE 10.2-went very smooth. So now I bought a TRENDnet TFM-560X serial modem, and have that connected to my computer.

No problems connecting the modem. openSUS seems to know all the info about the modem, which port etc.

Anyway, my only problem is this, and it is a stupid one for something so simple... How do I connect to the internet? I know I can use kppp, but I can't find that on openSUSE or in the catologs. I also know that I need the ISP's DNS names and stuff and numbers, which is no biggie.

I just can't find kppp. I found a download link for kppp, and have it on there, but not installed. The installation instructions were a little too confusing for me.

The package your looking for is "kdenetwork3-dialup". It contains kppp . You can install it through yast2 > Software > Software Management.

It's on your DVD or CDs, just use YaST install kinternet, that's Suse's version. If you have your ISP dial number it should retrieve your dns. There was a check box "stupid" that I didn't check and needed to for mine. The rest was pretty easy.

Thank you very much guys! :) I now have it installed. However, I thought I had my modem all setup and everything. When setting up I selected the port my modem was in ttyS0, and all that other stuff. But when I try to query the modem, I get... Unable to create modem lock file. What do I do now? :o
