Post Can't edit config files


hello everyone.....
i m novice in Linux. currently i m trying to install oracle 11gR2 database on oracle enterprise linux 5 guest operating system. but before installation we have to do some post installation task in linux configuration. whenever i m trying to edit any linux configuration file its give the error " permission denied". just like....



[root@oel5 ~]# /etc/selinux/config
bash: /etc/selinux/config: Permission denied
[root@oel5 ~]# /etc/security/limits.conf
bash: /etc/security/limits.conf: Permission denied
[root@oel5 ~]#


pls help me ......

pls help me ......
Spell out your words. And you're getting that message, because you're not editing a file...Just typing the name.

Try putting a vi in front of the file name.

i had a "preview" flash of this happening
DO NOT do this

/etc/selinux/ vi config
this as a normal user

su -
vi /etc/selinux/config
you DO know how to use "vi" ???? right

but " nano " should be installed and for simple short edits it is a bit easier
