Question Can't delete file 'kcore'

There is a file which looks like this in /proc. I need to delete it since there is hardly any space on my 4GB hard disk. (I think this is a core dump and not useful)

-r-------- 1 root root 140939362 kcore

I am unable to delete it. I have already tried the following.

-> rm -f kcore
Cannot unlink: insufficient permissions

-> chmod 777 kcore
no error message but permissions remain the same

-> chown user1 kcore
Nope couldn't change the user.

-> Tried from the gnome file manager by right clicking trying to delete, change properties etc. but to no avail.

Am i doomed to live with this obscencely large file forever?

Thanks in advance for your solutions.

/proc does not actually exist, it is just system information created as part of your file system for easy access. kcore is not a real file. (i think it's actually the RAM, not sure though)

Chris, I restarted the system twice. This file first appeared after gnome crashed on me.

I too read (in Bach maybe?) that proc wasn't real but thought maybe things have changed since then.

What do you suggest? Should i leave it be?
