Can't change drive permissions
 

Have a usb drive formatted formatted ext3 but want to copy the files onto a 2nd usb drive that is formatted ntfs. All drives mounted just fine. The problem is that I have been unable to change permissions on the ntfs drive so that I can write to it. Any help wold be appreciated. Thanks

Usually is not possible to write on a NTFS filesystem, this is the reason of a read-only mounted drive! A chance would be to install the package ntfs-3g which will let you write on NTFS. It is still in a beta testing stage, but sincerely I haven't had any problem till now!

You mean you cannot write to NTFS from Linux. I think you maybe also cannot change NTFS permissions from Linux.

I don't know if it relevant here, but I am finding that keeping all data on ext3 is much easier. I am using the ext2fs driver to access ext3 files from Windows.

A simple and safe solution to write on ntfs drives would be knoppix 5.1.It's the newest version of a live cd ditribution based on debian with KDE desktop.I think it would help you pretty good :D.
