Can't boot anymore

Hi All

I have a machine that was running windows. I used wubi to install ubuntu so I can play with both without wrecking the windows install.

Suddenly I can't boot in to Ubuntu (windows is fine) When I choose ubuntu on the menu it goes to a command line with grub>

Can anyone advise how I can fix this

Thanks

Glenn

Hi,

it looks like grub cannot find Ubuntu anymore. Since wubi is installed "within" Windows here my question, did you change anything with your Windows-installation?

Hi,

Suddenly does not really exist...unless it happens after something else happened. What did you do? Updates, installs and so on beore this happened?

Could it be that your Grub does not have access to the Linux partition anymore but still access to the windows? Fixing Grub requires some insight into the menu list. Try to pub that here...

If you cannot boot that deep, try TTY Linux to boot the box...

Stuck? Let us know...

Luck

Hi Markus

Nothing had changed. I was using Ubuntu with no issues. Shutdown the pc. On the next boot I got this issue.

I try not to use the windows but have it as a reserve

Thanks

Glenn

For wubi issues, start with this ubuntuforums thread.

Try Direct Booting

Before I went too far astray, I would try to use the tools at hand. Follow this link: http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152790

Scroll down to "Direct booting by naming the kernel and initrd files".

Use the autocomplete feature of GRUB to see if it can find Ubuntu. Once you boot, you can make the necessary configuration changes to GRUB. This could also be accomplished from a live cd like SuperGrub.
