can't access sound input from Hauppauge USB Live 2 with ffmpeg or aconv

lsusb, dmesg, and lsmod all show the device recognized the the drivers loaded.
I am trying to pipe the output to a server on my local network. I can then remotely access the second tuner on my Dish network receiver. (Houses here are built with cement so running a coax to different rooms is !!!!)
My wifi works great locally.
I installed tvtime to my Lubuntu 15.04 distro and it works great as a player with video and sound. Starting tvtime in a terminal with verbose that "cp sound to default"
Only alsa drivers are loaded and the sound input is loaded at /dev/snd/pcmC1D0c.
What command line entry is necessary to load the appropriate device output with ffmpeg or aconv?
Mythtv is not an option with this card.
