Can't access Network printer

Our department has just installed a RICOH Aficio MP 1600 Le network printer and it is connected to the loval network. Unfortunately, the CD shipped with the product does not contain any information about how to use it from my Linux terminal (they just gave Windows amd Mac drivers). How do I get to print my documents from this printer?

I am using Fedora Core 4

Hi there,

One advantage of Linux is that the drivers needed to install peripheral devices are either include in the distribution, or found on the web.

Now to get to your problem. You need to have root access on your machine. As root type the command
Code:
system-config-printer
You should be able to access the printer on the network, and make it your default printer or not (up to you).

The setup of a printer is pretty much straight forward with this command. You need to follow the instructions on the screen.

Hope this helps. Cheers

The printer should accept a LPR connection, use cups to configure it..

you can whip up a ppd file for the printer for Linux printing from here:

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...Aficio_MP_1600

Queue name for lpd can be anything.. apparently
Although a different source says.. "Ricoh Aficio Printers queue name (Internal):'PORT1'"
I would probably use PORT1 as that is a common queue name for the connected copiers..
