Thank you! Would not have known this.

And thank you again to all that replied. Mostly Lazydog being the main contributor. This just saved around 390gbs of data, totalling nearly 90,000 files consisting of family photos, documents, videos, and the like.

Now to buy more drives and setup a mirroring raid to protect all these files.

Glad I was able to help. Sorry it took so long as I was not thinking straight. I should have known that sda would be your internal drive and not the one you were trying to get data off.
