Cal command help!

I have find the command to display the calendar for this month while also displaying the number of days since the new year. I've looked everywhere in the man, help, and info pages and I can't find the command to show the number of days since the new year.

any help is much appreciated!

cal -j
will show the current month in Julian date format, with the current day highlighted. That's the number of days since January 1.

Or: date +%j
