Angry Cable Modem will not work

I cannot get my SB4100 Cable Modem to work with Linux. I have read all of the HOWTO's and nothing seems to help.
When I run ifconfig eth0 I get:
Link encap: Ethernet HW addr 00:20:40:A5:0E:93
BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500
all packets=0
Any helpful comment appreciated
