Search for the packages in Yast and install them.
gcc-4.1.0-25
gcc-info-4.1.0-25
gcc-c++-4.1.0-25
libgcc-4.1.0-25

You can also filter by the programming group to find other packages you want to install.

Smile Running the compiled program

Thanks, I got the compiling done, then had a big struggle to run the program, as various sources suggest things like $ a.out or just a.out. For the benefit of others who find this thread, quite by chance (no help at all from the SuSE handbooks or website) I discovered that the command is ./a.out or ./myprogram if -o myprogram has been used.
