c-media sound card
 

Hello, I recently purchased a c-media pci sound card. Cheapo but does the trick. The thing is that I have no sound. I went into the control center and checked everything out all seems fine. I am assuming I need to remove my old sound card that is still listed under the config center, the thing is I dont know how...these are the two listings I have, so I don't remove the wrong one. My older sound card came stock, but cannot actually be removed from mypc. Well I am sure it can with a liitle effort, but my new pci card installed fine under my xp partition. I just had to remove the old one under device manager which is what I am guessing I have to do here...just a guess tell me If I am wrong please.

sorry if I was vague or guestioned wrong.

if your old card is onboard then you should beable to disable it in the bios setup. If you just remove it from whatever passes for the device manager in mandrake (i've never used it) chances are linux will detect it again on bootup.

Then just check it's not muted and the correct module is loaded

Under Mandrake Linux its called config center I believe, the thing is there is not an option to remove.....? I already have disabled from bios onboard sound, the correct module is showing, but so is the older one(the one I believe I need to remove), these are showing under config center. Oh well I am sure I'll get it and post my results for future queries. Thanks though.

you could try lookin gin modules.conf for the line(s) containing "snd-intel8x0" and deleting them then rebooting

i am a newbie though :) so i could be wrong and also dont know anything about mandrake, but thats what i would do
