burning problem with Fedora Core 4
 

I've downloaded all 2.4gig of Fedora Core 4 - but when I use Nero to burn the bootable .iso image onto dvd I get a message that says that the .iso file is too big to be burnt using the .iso file standard (as it's over 2gb) and that the UDF file system should be used - this is fine but this won't create a bootable cd surely?

I don't want 4 cds, so would prefer to go the dvd root - advice appreciated.

If you've downloaded the 2.4GB file, you've downloaded a DVD image. DVDs use UDF as the filesystem. Why do you think the DVD would not be bootable if burned UDF?

thanks for the reply, Nero won't allow me to burn the .iso image - so the other option is to burn a data dvd disc - are you saying that as long as my boot order is dvd-rom first it will boot automatically?

As long as:

1. you properly burn the DVD image (you should see multiple files/directories on the DVD after the burn, not the .iso file),

2. your PC supports DVD booting (most fairly recent machines - the BIOS must support UDF),

3. your boot DVD drive supports the media you are using (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM),

...then the DVD will boot. Many people download the DVD image when they can't actually use it. The CD images are a safer bet, as CD booting has been around for longer.
