burning cds with the new 2.6.11.8

i recently upgraded to the 2.6.11.8, i got almost everything working but was wondering about my cd burner. i did a cdrecord -scanbus and it didn't say anything about my cd/dvd burner. So do i need to add scsi emulation to my lilo.conf file? Or do i need to recompile my kernel to support cd/dvd burning???

thanks,
djgerbavore

cdrecord has problems with 2.6.X

djgerbavore 05-12-2005 07:46 PM

is there a fix for it, or do i have to use scsi emulation?

i suggest you use a 2.4.X unless 2.6 is needed. you could also check on kernel.org maybe they have mailing lists archives

There was a minor problem with a couple of releases in the 2.6 series, but if you are using anything current then you should be ok. You don't need scsi emulation to burn cd's or dvd's using the 2.6 kernel. On my system cdrecord -scanbus does not show any optical devices at all, but I can still write cd's or dvd's.

I use cdrecord (on the cli or with k3b as the frontend).
